Dr Stacey Skaalure has been awarded a very prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship from H2020, in which she will design a hydrogel capable of delivering therapeutics upon the application of light. Congrats Stacey!

Visiting PhD student Gianpiero Valente won the Best Oral Communication prize, the top prize amongst more than 180 presentations, for his presentation based on work in collaboration with the Stevens Group at the Merck Young Chemists Symposium. Congrats Gianpiero!

Dr Mads Bergholt has been awarded the Edmund Optics Education Award from the Edmund Optics company. This award recognises the excellence in his research, personal commitment and personality. Congrats Mads!

Congratulations to Paola Campagnolo who is now Lecturer of Molecular Cardiovascular Biology at University of Surrey! She is starting her independent academic career following her postdoctoral research with us studying the interactions between stem cells and novels materials for the treatment of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Nayoung Kim has been awarded joint 1st place for the AWE William Penney Prize, which is an annual award to students on the MSc Advanced Materials course in the Department of Materials for the best project report. Congrats Nayoung!

Stevens Group PhD students Colleen Loynachan, Polina Brangel and Ye Wang won the top 3 poster prizes at this year’s i-sense biannual meeting with their posters entitled “Point-of-Care Assays Based on Enzyme Mimetic Nanoparticles”, “Serological Surveillance of Human Ebola Virus Survivors Using a Novel Smartphone-based Point of Care Test” and “Amplified detection of miRNA for Influenza diagnostics using quantum dot and duplex specific nuclease”, respectively.
