Andrea Serio featured on the new Imperial Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Network Website
Stevens Group member Dr Andrea Serio is this month’s featured researcher on the new website of the Imperial Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Network, which is co-led by Profs Sara Rankin, Sian Harding and Molly Stevens. Dr Paola Campagnolo, also a postdoc within the Stevens Group, organises regular events for this Network, which hosts world-leading researcher lectures at Imperial College.
Harriet Gliddon in Finals of Global Health Competition
Stevens Group PhD student Harriet Gliddon has been selected as one of the finalists of the Institute for Global Health Innovation Student Challenges Competition! Harriet has created a video called ‘Putting TB to the test’ that summarises her approach of creating nanomaterial-based biosensors capable of detecting biomarkers of tuberculosis. Congrats to Harriet, whose video has been selected as one of the top 6 entrees based on its excellent quality!
Spencer Crowder selected to present at SET for Britain
Stevens Group member Spencer Crowder was selected to present his work at this year’s SET for Britain poster competition. He will present his work to MPs in Westminster. SET for Britain is a highly competitive national competition that supports early career researchers to present their work is such a prestigious forum. Congrats Spencer!

Rona Chandrawati has been appointed as Lecturer at the University of Sydney
Congratulations to Rona Chandrawati who has been appointed as a Lecturer in the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Sydney, where she will begin in October! Her research programme will investigate innovative nanomaterials for their biomedical applications, amongst other exciting activities. Congratulations Rona!
Lesley Chow has been appointed as Assistant Professor at Lehigh University
Congratulations to Lesley Chow who is now an Assistant Professor at Lehigh University in the States! She is starting her independent academic career following her postdoctoral research with us focusing on biofunctionalising scaffolds with peptides that specifically bind to glycosaminoglycans for applications in tissue engineering. Congratulations Lesley!
Sergio Bertazzo awarded Lectureship at University College London
Congratulations to Sergio Bertazzo who has secured a Lecturer position at the University College London, where he will continue his research using electron microscopic-based methods to investigate the life sciences. His research programme will expand upon his exciting findings of biomineralised particles in human aortic tissues, conducted during his postdoctoral research while in the Stevens Group. Congrats Sergio!
Karla-Luise Herpoldt awarded Washington Research Foundation’s Innovation Fellowship
Karla-Luise Herpoldt has been awarded the Washington Research Foundation's Innovation Fellowship to work with Profs David Baker and Patrick Stayton at the University of Washington for her postdoc! She will be using her expertise in proteases and other proteins to design pH responsive protein-based nanoparticles capable of delivering polymer-prodrugs. Congratulations Karla!
Damia Mawad has been appointed to Faculty at UNSW in Australia
Congratulations to Damia Mawad who has been appointed as a Faculty member in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of New South Wales in Australia! Harriet Gliddon and Colleen Loynachan Awarded Poster Prizes at i-sense Biannual Meeting
Congratulations to Stevens Group members Colleen Loynachan and Harriet Gliddon, whose posters "Point-of-Care Assays Based on Enzyme Mimetic Nanoparticles" and “Shining a light on TB: Engineering a fluorescent nanoparticle-based test for tuberculosis” won First and Fourth Place in the Poster Competition of this summer’s i-sense Biannual Meeting.
